| A VOLUNTEER is a person who is a light to others, giving witness in a mixed-up age, doing well and willingly the tasks at hand namely, being aware of another's needs and doing something about it |
A great way to become involved with the YMCA beyond your membership is to become a volunteer. By doing so, your membership is transformed from a passport to facilities into a role in the Norwalk community where you make a real difference.
The YMCA recognizes volunteers as investments, as resources, as a support system, and as donors of valuable time, energy, and talent. Through volunteering for your YMCA, you become connected in a deeper sense than when you casually joined. You become an advocate of the YMCA's broad work and purpose.
You may not realize it, but every day something happens at your YMCA that changes and enriches a person's life. They may seem like small things, but they add up. The YMCA mission comes alive through volunteers; committed to giving back some of what the Y has given them.
Volunteering with the YMCA not only can greatly improve the lives of children and families and make our communities stronger, but it can also greatly impact your life. Research shows that those who volunteer live longer, healthier lives. In addition to feeling great about your efforts, volunteers have the opportunity to:
- Attend trainings to broaden personal and professional skills
- Include experience on resume or fulfill service requirements
- Develop new relationships and make friends
- Learn, grow and HAVE FUN!
Just some of the ways you can volunteer and impact the lives of others through the YMCA of Norwalk:
- Special Events Volunteer
Special Events Volunteers assist in the organization and implementation of a variety of the YMCA's special events.
- Philanthropy Volunteer
YMCA Philanthropy Volunteers engage individuals, families and the community in the mission of our YMCA, by encouraging the giving of time and treasure. This role includes assisting in fundraising, telling YMCA stories and telephoning members as examples.
- Programming Volunteer
Programming volunteers help to promote our YMCA and work in all of our YMCA programs as leaders.
- Communications Volunteer
Communications volunteers lend their skills in photography, drawing, writing or graphic design to help implement strategies (e.g. newsletters) that keep the YMCA of Norwalk family connected and informed.
- Maintenance
Maintenance volunteers support the smooth running of our facilities.
