DIRECTOR OF AQUATICS

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a Full Time exempt Aquatic Director who will report to the CEO. The Aquatic Director oversees the operations of the aquatics department and programs, including staff supervision, budget management, and planning.

Bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or equivalent. Five or more years of supervisory experience in an aquatic program. Ability to train swim and water fitness instructors. Excellent communication and public relations skills. Familiarity with personal computers helpful. Requires trainer-level certification in YMCA Swim Lessons: Youth & Adult and/or YMCA Swim Lessons: Preschool, Parent/Child. Advanced First Aid, Fitness Specialist and CPR certifications required. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manages aquatic programs, complying with all Association standards and safety procedures.

  • Hires, trains and supervises staff and volunteers for all aquatic programs.

  • Develops, manages, and monitors aquatic department budgets. Assesses and recommends budgeting for facility and equipment needs.

  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign, and other volunteer committees as assigned.

  • Develops, produces and disseminates appropriate program information in order to promote aquatic programs to the public and to current members.

  • Ensures that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.

  • Provides data and reports on assigned programs in support of the planning process of the branch and Association.

  • Represents the branch at various meetings related to the position.
This position ensures that aquatics programs are high quality, operated within budget, and provided by a competent staff.

SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE - SITE COORDINATORS/HEAD TEACHERS/ASSISTANT HEAD TEACHERS

Minimum Requirements: Bachelors or Associates Degree or 30 credits hours in Child Development, CPR & First Aid Certification, two years experience working with children or an after school setting.

SACC Head Teachers: Sites available in Columbus Magnet, Cranbury, Fox Run, Silvermine, and Tracey schools, P/T morning and afternoons, Mon - Fri, responsibilities include curriculum implementation and supervision of children. Minimum Requirements: Associate Degree or 15 college credits, High School Diploma and one year of experience working with children.

MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATE

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a Part Time Maintenance Associate to perform routine maintenance duties to ensure cleanliness and safety of the facility. Six months or more of related experience preferred. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties. Candidates should have an electrical and plumbing background and be willing to roll up their sleeves and perform various job duties in and around the facility. This position will report to our Manager of Facility. While we will attempt to accommodate a flexible schedule, some evenings and weekends may be required. Scheduling of this position will be between the candidate and the Manager.

Candidate must have the ability to use equipment and chemicals in prescribed manner, including ability to read labels, MSDS information sheets, and instructions. Candidate must stay alert to potential safety and security problems. Candidate is to carry out instructions independently and follow OSHA regulations.

Duties will include repairs on all floors of four story building (no elevator access), follow work order process, ability to use computer to handle e-mail issues and attend regular meetings as dictated by the Manager. Other responsibilities shall include painting, replacing light fixtures, and furniture moving, assisting all departments with any repair issues, maintenance of our conference center and landscaping issues, along with any other duties as assigned.

MEMBERSHIP DESK SUPERVISOR

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Membership Supervisors to manage and oversee the daily functions of the membership services front desk (both service center and program registration) and reception staff. Bilingual a plus and prefer a retail management background. This position will require participation of either an early morning shift of 5am - 2pm or afternoon/evening shift of 1:30pm - 9:30pm. We are also seeking a weekend supervisor with anticipated shift hours of 8am - 7pm on Saturday and 8am - 4pm on Sunday. These hours are subject to change at any time.

Bachelor's degree in business administration, human services or equivalent. One or more years experience with staff supervision, management and customer service. Knowledge of computer systems, including personal computers and applications preferred. Ability to develop effective working relationships, and to effectively communicate and problem-solve. Strong leadership skills, high degree of accuracy, skill with quantitative information and ability to make decisions based on logical reasoning. Ability to take initiative and respond to a variety of situations and manage several tasks and projects at the same time.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
  • Coordinates the overall front desk operation (both facility access and program registration), which encompasses hiring, training and supervising the front desk membership services staff; orchestrating both the program registration process and facility access procedures.

  • Establishes policies, procedures and guidelines for assigned staff with emphasis on customer service.

  • Adept with computers, WORD and Excel.

  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  • Develops, plans and monitors the staffing budget for front desk. Will include staffing the desk with appropriate coverage and monitoring sub coverage.

  • Serves as staff support for the annual campaign.

  • Helps in providing administrative and computer support as needed for staff directors.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS
  • Ensures that the member services front desk functions at maximum efficiency and courtesy to fully support the customer service objectives of the YMCA.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a Business Development Director to direct membership promotion, retention, sales and marketing activities. Bachelor's degree in marketing, education, recreation or equivalent. Three or more years of related experience in membership marketing and/or sales. Five or more years of related experience in staff and volunteer supervision, financial management, public relations/communication skills, fund raising, and community program development. Ability to develop effective working relationships, and to effectively communicate and problem-solve. Strong leadership skills, high degree of accuracy, skill with quantitative information and ability to make decisions based on logical reasoning. Ability to take initiative and respond to a variety of situations and manage several tasks and projects at the same time.
  • Experience in staff supervision. Recruits, trains and supports assigned staff. Provides liaison to committee(s) and advisory board(s). Experience with computers, including personal computer applications such as data base and word processing. Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make oral presentations. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  • Reaching out to community, visiting corporations and developing the presence of the community center. Maintain a solid understanding of the sales pipeline with a non profit organization in Norwalk, CT.

  • Develops, implements, and manages membership marketing, sales and retention plans to promote membership growth for the organization. Coordinates special events and activities.

  • Develops and controls department budgets related to the position. Manages and controls assigned budgets to meet membership income goals.

  • Directs membership sales. Manages membership campaigns and building tour activities, including staff training for tours and overseeing the scheduling of tours. Implements membership strategies that promote recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.

  • Develops effective working relationships with service groups, community organizations, and companies, including making presentations.

  • Hires, trains, evaluate, and supervise assigned staff and volunteers. Provides development and leadership.

  • Ensures upkeep of related facilities and equipment.

This position directs the membership and marketing function for a full facility YMCA to ensure quality, growth and financial soundness. Ensures that the member services front desk functions at maximum efficiency and courtesy to fully support the customer service objectives of the organization.

VP OF OPERATIONS

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a VP of Operations that will report directly to the CEO. Candidate will be responsible for successful operation of all departments within the YMCA. Additional duties shall include program development, volunteer recruitment, Supervision of Dept. heads, community relations, collaborations, budgeting & financial results. Candidate would also be responsible for performance evaluations, staff recruitment, training & development. Committee participation shall be required across all departments.

Bachelor's degree required. Management experience of 5-7 years with YMCA Senior Director preferred (must be willing to attain within 1 year). A minimum of five years of middle/upper level management experience is required with demonstrated success in marketing and public relations, and strong budget development skills. The individual must have strong interpersonal skills as it relates to interaction with members, staff and volunteers.

FITNESS FLOOR STAFF

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Part Time Fitness Floor Staff with a reporting relationship to the Director of the Fitness Center. General responsibilities are to monitor and maintain the Fitness center in a manner that is safe, inviting, neat and clean. Job Requirements:
  • CPR certification
  • Interest and general knowledge of fitness and healthy living
  • Minimum Age 17
Major Duties:
  • To be present 5 minutes prior to the shift start
  • Staff member must get coverage of shift if time off needed and Director must be informed. Prior to the shift change.
  • Customer centered staff aligned to the customer centered message.
  • The staff's duty is to be diligent with filling out the following forms on a schedule.
    • Equipment Repair Sheets - Any machines out of order with down dates and proposed fix dates
    • Equipment Clean-up Sheets - A flowing schedule of equipment with Date and time of cleaning of equipment.
    • Members/Staff suggestions box. Changes will be made by listening to the members.
    • Members Count Sheet count on the hour the number of members in center
    • Bulletin Boards are to post three things member news///training hits or features///present and up and coming events o Orientations Sheet Schedule and set persons for orientations and personal trainings with trainers
  • To remain observant of potential safety violations by members and equipment abuse.
  • Follow emergency procedures when needed
  • Inform Physical Fitness director of any present or potential problems.

PRESCHOOL TEACHERS

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Preschool Head and Assistant Teachers to report to the Director of Preschool. Teachers are needed in the following areas: Preschool and Toddler. Candidates must have knowledge and understanding of working with children. YMCA experience preferred.

Assistant Teachers duties include:
Assisting the Head Teacher with all areas of the program, provide a safe , healthful and effective environment for each child, attend necessary training events, demonstrate punctuality, reliability, understanding of group/individual needs in class discipline and prevent a positive and professional image of the YMCA. Candidate must possess a CDA or higher.

Head Teachers duties include:
Supervise, direct and develop the daily programs for the nursery school with the association's mission and purpose. The Head Teacher must possess an Associate's degree or higher, have a CDA, and at least one year of direct experience with children. Candidate must interact with staff, parents, and children. Head Teachers are responsible for communication, evaluation and development of effective programs that foster a learning conducive environment, must attend training events, demonstrate punctuality, reliability, demonstrate an understanding of group/individual needs in class discipline and prevent a positive and professional image of the YMCA.

CUSTOMER SERVICE/FRONT DESK/RECEPTIONIST POSITION

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks FT/PT Membership Service Front Desk position that will report to the Director of Membership. Responsibilities shall include: Excellent customer service skills (retail management background preferred), able to interact with all levels of management, strong organizational skills, neat appearance, able to use computer system for sales, inventory experience and cash out at end of shift/day. Candidates will be providing tours of the facility and responsible for attaining sales goals set by Director.

Additional functions may include working with property management facilitators, attending training events, and work shifts consist of early morning, daily, evening and weekend shifts (YMCA will attempt to set a routine shift).

Requirements: Must be 18 or older, willing to quickly learn the YMCA of Norwalk computer system, certified in Adult CPR & AED (will train if needed) and First Aid.

GYMNASTICS COORDINATOR

General Function
Under the direction of the Director of Physical Education, the Gymnastics Program Coordinator will be responsible for the development of all gymnastics and gymnastics related programs including the implementation of a progressive gymnastics curriculum serving youth ages 6 months to 18 years. The Gymnastics Program Coordinator will further be responsible for the creation of a USGA Competitive Gymnastics Team. He/she will oversee all aspects of operating a successful and safe gymnastics center including supervision of all gymnastics staff.

Know How
This position requires at least 3-5 years experience in gymnastics instruction and overall knowledge of a progressive gymnastics program. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have at least 1-2 years staff supervision experience.

LIFE GUARD

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Lifeguards who will report directly to the Assistant Director of Aquatics and/or the Director of Aquatics. Lifeguards are responsible for the supervision, general maintenance and safety of all participants using the pool. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, currently certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid, AED, Blood born Pathagens and Lifeguard training. Applicant must be in good health and fitness.

Responsibilities include: Being professional, polite, courteous and alert at all times, knowing and enforcing all pool rules, being able to administer proper first aid and carry out all emergency procedures, as taught, if needed and find appropriate sub coverage if needed. Other activities our Lifeguards participate with opening procedures (including chemical readings and analysis), closing procedures and regular performance expectations are to be met.

AQUATIC INSTRUCTORS
