AQUATIC INSTRUCTORS
LIFE GUARD

AQUATIC INSTRUCTORS
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Aquatic Instructors who will report directly to the Assistant Director of Aquatics
and/or the Director of Aquatics. Instructors are responsible for supervision, quality control and safety of
all participants engaging in swim lessons. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, currently certified
in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid; Applicant must be in good health and fitness.
Candidate must obtain W.S.I. or YMCA Instructor certification within one year.
Responsibilities include: Being professional, polite, courteous and alert at all times, knowing and enforcing
all pool rules, being able to administer proper first aid and carry out all emergency procedures, as taught,
if needed and find appropriate sub coverage if needed. Other activities our instructors participate with
meeting with Directors, coordinate lesson schedule, assign classes to instructors, use computer system for
registration of participants, assist with staff meetings, strive to provide quality classes while increasing
enrollment and handle interaction with staff, parents and children.
Instructor positions are available for shifts in the early morning, daily, evening and weekends.

LIFE GUARD
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Lifeguards who will report directly to the Assistant Director of Aquatics
and/or the Director of Aquatics. Lifeguards are responsible for the supervision, general maintenance and safety
of all participants using the pool. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, currently certified in CPR
for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid, AED, Blood born Pathagens and Lifeguard training.
Applicant must be in good health and fitness.
Responsibilities include: Being professional, polite, courteous and alert at all times, knowing and
enforcing all pool rules, being able to administer proper first aid and carry out all emergency procedures,
as taught, if needed and find appropriate sub coverage if needed. Other activities our Lifeguards
participate with opening procedures (including chemical readings and analysis), closing procedures and
regular performance expectations are to be met.
Lifeguard positions are available for shifts in the early morning, daily, evening and weekends. For

SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE:
School Age Childcare Staff. Excellent opportunity for individuals interested in working with youth in an educational and recreational school setting. Strong Interaction and rapport with children from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Able to follow daily schedule including homework support and conducting planned enrichment activities and serving snack. Provide a safe, nurturing environment for the children. Teacher training and prior experience with the age group preferred. Hours: 7:00 am-9:00 am and 3:00p-6:00pm Monday-Friday on School Days. Hourly rate commensurate with experience . SACC Head Teachers: We provide school age childcare services at Columbus Magnet, , Fox Run, Ponus Middle School and West Rocks Middle School. schools, P/T morning and afternoons, Mon - Fri, on Norwalk Public School calendar. Responsibilities include curriculum implementation and supervision of children. Minimum Requirements: Associate Degree or 15 college credits, High School Diploma and one year of experience working with children. (Middle schools offer afternoon care, only.)
SACC Assistant Head Teachers: Sites available in Columbus Magnet, , Fox Run, Ponus Middle School and West Rocks Middle School. , P/T morning and afternoons, Mon - Fri, responsibilities include active participation and assisting with the supervision of the children, homework support and safety requirements. Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma and experience working with children.
SACC Floater/Substitute Teachers: All sites have occasional need for support coverage. Substitutes must comply with all YMCA employee procedures in addition to fingerprinting and health form/TB testing, required by State licensing.
Staff are also needed for our programs at Cranbury School and Silvermine School.

PRESCHOOL TEACHERS
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Preschool Head and Assistant Teachers to report to the Director of Preschool.
Teachers are needed in the following areas: Preschool and Toddler. Candidates must have knowledge and understanding
of working with children. YMCA experience preferred.
Assistant Teachers duties include:
Assisting the Head Teacher with all areas of the program, provide a safe ,
healthful and effective environment for each child, attend necessary training events, demonstrate punctuality,
reliability, understanding of group/individual needs in class discipline and prevent a positive and professional
image of the YMCA. Candidate must possess a CDA or higher.
Head Teachers duties include:
Supervise, direct and develop the daily programs for the nursery school with
the association's mission and purpose. The Head Teacher must possess an Associate's degree or higher, have
a CDA, and at least one year of direct experience with children. Candidate must interact with staff,
parents, and children. Head Teachers are responsible for communication, evaluation and development of
effective programs that foster a learning conducive environment, must attend training events, demonstrate
punctuality, reliability, demonstrate an understanding of group/individual needs in class discipline and
prevent a positive and professional image of the YMCA.
FREE YMCA membership for all staff. Full Time employees (40 hours/week) are eligible for the full benefits package and participate in the YMCA retirement plan. Salary commensurate with experience.

FITNESS INSTRUCTORS
Supervisor: Coordinator of Group Exercise
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks fitness instructors who have 2+ years experience (from obtaining their
national certification), in addition to step experience, to teach a variety of fitness classes
here at the YMCA. Candidates should have experience in at least one of the following classes listed below:
- Low/High Impact Aerobics
- Yoga
- 20/20/20
- Cardio Kick Boxing
- Body Sculpting
- Spinning
- Aerobics
- Pilates
GENERAL FUNCTION:
To teach a variety of group exercise classes designed to enhance the wellbeing of the YMCA members.
Job Requirements:
- CPR and national certification (ex: AFAA, ACE, NASM, etc.) required
- Interest and general knowledge of fitness and healthy living
- Must have a college degree
Major Duties:
- To be present 5 minutes prior to the shift start
- Staff member must get coverage of shift if time off needed and Director must be informed prior to the shift change.
- Customer centered staff aligned to the customer centered message.
- The staff's duty is to be diligent with filling out the following forms on a schedule.
- To remain observant of potential safety violations by members and equipment abuse.
- Follow emergency procedures when needed.
- Inform Director of Health and Wellness of any present or potential problems.
Instructor position shall provide for a free facility usage provided instructor teaches for a
minimum of 10 hours per month.

GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTOR
The Norwalk YMCA seeks an experienced PT gymnastics instructor to teach gymnastics at all levels. Classes shall
include young toddlers, children, youth and teens. Candidates must have a solid understanding of gymnast progression
and be willing to create gymnastics travel competition team when developed. Candidate should have a college degree and
2-3 years of experience with gymnastics instruction. YMCA experience preferred.

SPINNING INSTRUCTORS
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Spin Instructors who will report directly to the Coordinator of Spin and/or the
Director of Fitness. Instructors are responsible for enthusiastically leading a class through a cardio workout.
Applicants must have a current certification in CPR and AED. Applicant must be in good health and fitness. Candidate
must have a certificate in Spin/Cycle.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Being professional, polite, courteous and alert at all times, abiding
by all YMCA policies and procedures and following the core values of Honesty, Respect, Caring and Responsibility.
Spinning Instructors who are on a regular working schedule are responsible for obtaining proper sub coverage when
unavailable to teach for any reason.
All shifts are available including early mornings, evening, and weekends. Free facility usage is offered to all
employees who work a minimum of 10 hours per month.
