This program is designed for children ages 6 to 11. Each skill level builds upon the preceding level, with six levels covering all the strokes, diving and safety skills. Classes are determined by the ability of the child: Polliwog This is the beginning level for school-age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, with front gliding and back floating. Breathing, bubbles, bobs and safety jumps are repeatedly practiced. By the end of this level they should know the front paddle stroke and back paddle stroke. Members: $65/Non-Members: $130 back to top Guppy At this level children continue to practice and build upon basic skills and start to perform more skills with the assistance of the instructor. They are introduced to proper freestyle swim with rotary breathing and proper backstroke swim. Children are also introduced to deep water and taught to tread water. By the end of this level children need to be able to swim the width of the pool using freestyle and backstroke swim. Ratio: 6:1 - Located in our heated Auxiliary Pool
Members: $65/Non-Members: $130 back to top Minnow This level would be the initial intermediate level of swim. Children further refine freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke and are introduced to elementary backstroke. Diving skills are introduced. By the end of this level children need to accomplish swimming the length of the pool using freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke. By the end of this level children need to be able to swim the width of the pool using freestyle and backstroke swim. Ratio: 6:1 - Located in our heated Auxiliary Pool
Members: $65/Non-Members: $130 back to top Fish At this point, students work to per-fect freestyle, backstroke, and elementary backstroke. They are taught additional movements of synchronized swimming. The Breaststroke swim is introduced and children learn the proper kick and arm movements to Breaststroke. They are able to incorporate diving into their swim strokes. By the end of this level, students must be able to swim 2 lengths of each swimming stroke, along with Breaststroke. Ratio: 6:1 - Located in our heated Auxiliary Pool
Members: $65/Non-Members: $130 back to top Flying Fish At this level, students work on refining their strokes and increasing their endurance. They develop the ability to perform more complex combinations of synchronized swimming movements, are able to incorporate a standing dive into each swimming stroke previously taught, and are taught the butterfly stroke. By the end of this level students should be able to perform all swim strokes, tread water for 3 minutes and retrieve numerous dive rings from the deep end of the pool. Students at this advanced level continue to improve their strokes, while introduced to swim with starts and flip turns along with over arm sidestroke. Ratio: 8:1 - Main Pool
Members: $65/Non-Members: $130 back to top Shark (Formerly known as: Starfish Youth Swim Level 2) At this final level of swim, students incorporate all swim strokes with starts, dives and flip turns. Students are introduced to different drills of swim to build better technique in all four competitive swim strokes. Students are also introduced to Intermediate Medley's of swim consisting of 100 yards in distance, basic rescue skills for life guarding along with fun water activities and games while still incorporating skills taught in previous levels.
